main spring for antique air gunspring is made from 0.05 flat spring steel stock, cut to 5/8" width, sufficient length to coil into a conical shape in dimensions that follow. the oal of this coiled spring is approx. 2.5", with the larger end of the cone being 1.48", max., to fit inside a 1.525 brass compression cylinder. the opposite end of the spring being 0.95" diameter. (i use the term approx. in all cases, as the spring has been broken on at least one end - so i am estimating my limits by the measurement of corresponding fittings) this main spring fits into a brass cylinder of 1.525" diameter. that doesn't leave much tolerance, so , perhaps, diameter of the larger end of the spring could be pulled in slightly. (i gave you to largest reading on a slightly unevenly wound, really old spring!) having said that - the dimensions are fairly critical, as a 0.596" x 0.370 rack,complete with teeth, must pass through the center of this spring "very quickly". when the gun is fired, to compress the airand shoot the .32 cal. projectile.another point to consider is the fact that it took 80 pounds of pressure between my foot and the bathroom scales to compress the existing spring to the lowest possible depth. i would like to see that up to at least 100 pounds, but not to exceed 120 pounds in the new spring.pictures of the existing spring, and cylinder, are available.while only 1 spring is needed for this re-build job - i am considering production of some other airguns with this same type of firing mech., though the diameters of the spring may well be a bit smaller on the tentative production series. a lot will depend upon the performance satisfaction of this first repair job.further information questions are invited. thank you.contact person mr. hufh bodeytelephone 1-863-4030 Post:Sponsor
